Hooray for Palm Springs Hollywood!Rich Pivo As the song goes, “Hooray for Hollywood – they hire fellas whose physiques are good…” And seeing that the 23rd annual Palm Springs Film Festival has arrived in the Coachella Valley, there are plenty of good Hollywood physiques in town for the 12 day festival. Some of those famous bodies belong to George Clooney, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and an endless list of Tinsel Town elite.Palm Springs has been the second home to Hollywood since the early 20th century, made famous by the Marx Brothers, Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, Audrey Hepburn, Betty Davis, Mary Pickford and countless others. So in that long line of traditional Hollywood, is it any wonder that Hollywood chooses to promote itself in our little desert town, year after year? We’re just glad that they do – we not only get to see the stars in our own backyard, but also the new films which are up for Golden Globe and Oscar awards. Hollywood’s finest also come here to give and receive honors at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Maybe they really needed an excuse to spend time in gorgeous Palm Springs to enjoy their vacation homes here, or buy more property. Many homes owned by stars, past and present, are currently up for sale, including homes in the B-Bar-H Ranch development in Desert Hot Springs. This famous ranch became a popular home away from home for Hollywood celebrities in the 1930’s and ‘40’s, and the previous guest list for the ranch reads like a who's who of that era. No matter what the reason that Hollywood royalty choose to come to Palm Springs, the local fans and businesses are glad that they do, and as long as we continue our mad love affair with the movies, then the love affair with Hollywood and Palm Springs is here to stay.
