Indio Real Estate
Indio is Coachella Valley’s oldest city, named after the Spanish word for “Indian”. Originally a railroad stop in the early 1900s, Indio was incorporated in 1931. Today, the city has become a center for the arts and various conventions, meetings and events. Several festivals are held annually: the Riverside County Fair, the National Date Festival, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Southwest Arts Festival, and the Tamale Festival. The 1996 Historic Mural Project has produced 10 murals that chronicle the city’s history on “old town” buildings.
Golf is a big draw for Indio home owners with 11 golf courses in the city; 7 public and 4 private. A few of these courses are notable in the golf world. The 2nd longest par-3 executive course in the country can be found at the Indio Golf Course. The Landmark Golf Club has repeatedly hosted the Skins Game. Indio golf homes are quite popular and can be found on or near the course of one's choice.
Other outdoor pursuits, such as tennis and swimming are available. Hiking, cycling, walking and running are supported by the many trails in and around the city. The many festivals and events allow for year-round entertainment. Shopping and dining can be had at the Indio Fashion Mall, the Town and Country Center and in Old Town Indio, where over 170 businesses are interspersed with cultural features, such as the Coachella Valley Museum and Cultural Center and the Indio Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Information Center.
The average price of an Indio home is $231,084. North Indio has seen quite a lot of housing developments provide new, affordable homes since 2000. Currently, 120 single family home and condo developments give Indio home seekers their choice of a variety of real estate. Indio is seeing an influx of people looking for the Palm Springs lifestyle, making an investment in Indio real estate likely to see significant equity returns.
